Most contractors will expect you to have a CSCS card to work
on their site. Without a CSCS card, such as a green construction site operative
card, you will find it almost impossible, to get construction work.
The Green CSCS Card is issued to workers with non-specific skills such as
labourers and usually requires an NVQ/SVQ Level 1 or for a limited time an
employer’s recommendation (industry accreditation).
Before you are awarded a green CSCS card you must pass the CSCS
Health and Safety Test to show that you fully understand health and safety
issues. If you have completed the working at heights health and safety test
this will be endorsed on your card too.
The Green CSCS card is valid for five years. You may choose to train, to gain
additional skills and qualifications, progressing to a blue craft CSCS card or
a gold supervisor CSCS card before the five years renewal period.
